Esta maravilla de canción tiene un poder sentimental muy ligado al fracaso del movimiento cultural hippie, aquella generación de la que Joni Mitchell fue uno de sus principales estandartes y en la que se vio sumergida había aceptado su derrota y ahora tan sólo les quedaba el seguir leyendo en los periódicos cómo los soldados americanos seguían muriendo y matando en Vietnam, la guerra que todos ellos aborrecían.
En el tema Joni intenta olvidar toda esa negatividad viejando por el mundo pero no puede dejar de acordarse de California. Como curiosidad, en una parte del tema Joni nos narra que su gran viaje pasa por España, lo que sorprende es que dice que en España va a una fiesta a la que llega por un camino sucio (Bien), en la que había bellísimas personas (¿Por qué no?)…y en la que todos estaban leyendo el Vogue o la Rolling Stone (¿En España el Vogue y la Rolling Stone?, ¿en el 71?…seguro que fue a Ibiza.)
